Extract from Historic Cardiganshire Homes: Alltlwyd, Llanrhystud

The farm is on the Allt-lwyd estate, Llansantffraid, where the house was converted by 1986 into a hotel named Post-gwyn. This was the home of the family of William Hughes, of Devil's Bridge, whose son William was vicar of Llanilar. His son John, by Dorothy Evans of Talsarn, married Jane Edwards of Llanilar. Their son John, born 1805, became a JP and married secondly Elizabeth Parry of Llidiardau. Their son John George Parry Hughes, of Alltlwyd, was High Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1864.

William DAVIES (shipbuilder of Alltwyd) married Elizabeth (daughter of Evan EVANS of Berthrees).

1807 will
Elizabeth EVANS, late of Berthrys, names daughter Elizabeth, wife of William DAVIES gentleman of Alltwyd.

Margaret (31), wife (daughter of William DAVIES) of David JAMES of Alltlwyd, buried.

Elizabeth (69), widow of William DAVIES of Alltlwyd, buried.

David JAMES (40) farmer, Jane (35) second wife (nee PRICE of Dolegwyrddon), and Margaret (10) daughter.

John George Parry HUGHES, of Alltlwyd, owned 1,317 acres at rental value of £1,238.
