Copy of a handwritten letter (date unknown) documenting the formation of the National Federation of Women’s Institute (WI) in Llanrhystud, Ceredigion, dated 1922. To this day you will still recognise the names of houses where the founding members once lived.

Formation of National Federation of Women’s Institute

Transcription: 1922.

The W.I. was formed at Llanrhstyd in 1922.Miss Longcroft Llanina was the guest speaker at a meeting at the Primary(crossed out) National School. No records are available of the formation of the Institute. The officials appointed at the first meeting were:

President (Miss) crossed out) Nurse Lewis, Lois.
Vice President: Mrs, Lloyd Hughes Alltllwyd, Mrs Hughes Davies, Ystradteilo.
Secretary, Mrs A.O. Phillips, Gwladys.
Treasurer, Miss S.E. Davies Cawdor.

A cottage in Church Street was kindly offered for the meeting. The annual subscription was 2/-. Classes in handwork, carework ? were held weekly, also whist drives and after months of enthusiastic preparations by the members, a grand ……..  – faded?
