Caffi Wyre opened this month by Anwen and her husband having recently renovated the Old Smithy which is situated in the heart of the village, overlooking the River Wyre. They started work back in December 2020 as a ‘Lockdown Project’ and transformed the traditional blacksmiths workshop into a modern and quirky little café, located opposite the village Post Office and Stores and in easy walking distance of the Black Lion.

The renovation became a little bigger than they anticipated but they were determined to do a good job. As they were still under Covid regulations, they decided to create an outdoor space that was comfortable yet inviting offering home-made and traditional baking.

Anwen explains:
My family for as long as I can remember have always been in the catering business, with my grandmother still making her mouth watering apple pie’s, my mother creating her newly found ‘best ever’ recipe of coffee & walnut cake and my daughters now learning the traditional baking ways of their ancestors.

I think we’ve successfully achieved our aims with an outside kitchen which incorporates a wood fired stove for making pizza’s and an amazing organic ice cream made by Marshfield Farm.

Inside Seating

On the 17 May, the Welsh Government are due to announce regulations for inside seating which they are really looking forward to so that they can invite guests inside their café to see the selection of home-made cakes they have on offer.
