Susan Cottrell Ceredigion Artist
I was born in the West Midlands and worked there as a Reference Librarian for over 20 years. As a child I had many holidays in Wales as my maternal grandfather was Welsh and so I grew up to really love the Country.
After taking early retirement my first home in Wales was in Ponterwyd where I had a smallholding with goats, chickens and rabbits. Much as I love the Ponterwyd area it proved to be far too cold for a keen gardener like me.
I moved to my present address in Llanrhystud in 1994, which is a very old building, formerly half of a village pub the Red Lion (now closed). I have always painted, being taught the basics by my Dad and then progressed through ‘A’ levels and College courses.
Inspiring Welsh Countryside
For 20 years I was a member of the well-known and much visited Llanarth Art Group which closed in February 2020 due mainly to Covid 19 and all the restrictions that involved. The beauty of the Welsh countryside has been the inspiration for much of my work, but have also done pet portraits, still life and will undertake commissions. Most of my work now is done in oils and some in pastel. (depends on the subject) I have tried watercolour but sometimes find it a very difficult medium.
Art Gallery
I have opened a small “Gallery” in my house where I have paintings on display, including prints of my work as greetings card. (I also make jam and chutney from the produce of my garden which is also for sale).
Why not drop by and have a look – reasonable prices, Dolau, Llanrhystud. I’m usually at home but message me on Facebook or ring 0779 061 0022 to be sure.
Love the paintings of local scenes, keep up the good work!
